New York—October 22, 2014—Story To College, the company that brings the art and science of storytelling to students in the college application process, throughout college, and into the work world, today announced the delivery of its first public demonstration of Story2, its online platform for storytelling and admissions essay development. The demonstration, led by Founder and CEO Carol Barash, PhD, was provided to an audience of over 500 angel investors, venture capitalists, mentors, members of the media, education industry leaders, and potential business development partners from Kaplan, Inc. and across the education industry. The event was sponsored by the Kaplan EdTech Accelerator, powered by Techstars, a three-month intensive, mentor-driven, deep immersion program for twelve education technology startups.
Story2 makes proven tools and techniques from the proprietary Story To College Moments Method® available to students online and around the world. Story2 incorporates dynamic games and activities into the learning process, empowering students to record and transcribe stories, and to map, draft, and revise essays. Story2 also connects students with trained admissions experts who review essays and provide personalized written feedback.
Today’s demo offers a preview of the Story2 platform, which will be opened for general use by all college-bound high-school seniors applying to colleges this year. Over the past six weeks, it has been piloted to high school seniors who are applying to colleges via Early Decision or Early Action, with over 10,000 students accessing the platform.
“Our Moments Method has shown its power in helping students write essays that get them in and get them scholarship money again and again. With Story2, we can extend that reach from tens of thousands to the over eight million college application essays being written each year,” said Barash. “The Kaplan EdTech Accelerator program has helped us make enormous progress in realizing that vision.”
Based in the neuroscience of storytelling, Story2 teaches students skills they can use to write powerful college application essays and improve their overall writing and college readiness. Story2 solutions are affordable and accessible to a broad cross-section of students who have previously not been serviced.
Since 2011, Story2 has taught its proprietary Moments Method® to over 14,000 students and 650 teachers, delivering improved writing and communication skills through courses, coaching, professional development, and curriculum licensing. Its new online platform Story2 teaches students how to write successful college admission and scholarship essays, on their own, and in their own voices.
